The IANGV and affiliated associations are currently working with the United Nations International Standards Organization (ISO) to harmonize natural gas vehicle (NGV) standards worldwide as much as possible.

In the meantime, we recommend the use of our International NGV Standards Gap Analysis, updated in January 2007, as a reference tool for International Standards. The standards listed below are also listed for reference also though IANGV cannot assure that they are current. Visitors are reminded to check with local authorities before relying on the information provided. Corrections are welcomed This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. AS/NZS 2739:2003 Natural Gas Fuelling Systems for Vehicles. This standard sets out requirements for natural gas (CNG) fuel systems for motor vehicle engines used for propulsion or auxiliary functions. It also specifies requirements for the design and construction of component parts as well as their installation, testing, commissioning and periodic inspection. The standard supercedes AS/NZS 2739:1999, AS2739:1992, NZS 5422.2:1987 and NZS5422.3:1991 NZS 5422: Code of practice for the use of LPG and CNG fuels in internal combustion engines. Part 1: 1987 LPG fuel Amend 1, 1989 incorporated. Applies to the design, construction, installation, operation, maintenance and fuelling of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) systems where LPG is used either wholly or in part as a fuel for internal combustion engines. Covers the special requirements of industrial trucks and forklifts.
NZS 5425 Part 1 (1994): CNG Compressor and refuelling stations: On site storage and location of equipment. Amend 1, 1986
NZS 5425 Part 2 (1996): CNG Compressor and refuelling stations: Compressor equipment.
NZS 5425 Part 3, Division 3.1P (1985): CNG Compressor and refuelling stations: metering devices. Metering method using tables and calculator programme.
NZS 5425 Part 3, Division 3.2 (1996): Metering devices. Installation and operation of on-line metering devices.
NZS 5425 Part 3, Division 3.3 (1994): Performance requirements for on-line metering devices
NZS 5425 Part 4: CNG trickle fill stations on commercial and industrial premises
NZS 5426 Part 4 (superseded by ANSI/U.L. 558:1984): Industrial trucks, internal combustion engine-powered.
NZS 5454: 1989 Standard requirements for lightweight steel automotive compressed natural gas cylinders for use in New Zealand.

Applies to those cylinders with a normal maximum operating pressure of 20 MPa specifically designed for use in motor vehicles. Certain requirements for materials specifications, materials mechanical testing, cylinder manufacturing methods and Quality Assurance are addressed. A number of pressure tests are specified which cylinders must satisfactorily comply with to obtain the required approval. Requirements for design submission to NZ Statutory Authorities are specified. Prices available on request.
