In 2006, GM became Thailand’s first automaker to offer a CNG passenger car: the 1.6-liter Chevrolet CNG Optra that is capable of running on either CNG or gasoline at the flick of a switch. It is equipped with a slightly modified internal combustion engine (E10-compatible petrol 107hp 1.6-litre unit) and a pressurized tank to store natural gas. An estate version was introduced later. June 2009: The Optra compact (C-segment) family car have CNG versions in both the saloon and estate bodies with the E10-compatible petrol 107hp 1.6-litre unit. April 2010: The economical and multipurpose Chevrolet Optra Estate CNG won in the Best Station Wagon CNG category, for the second year in a row.
