Westport ISX G Engine
The Westport Innovations ISX G engine, based on the Cummins ISX diesel engine with cooled exhaust gas recirculation, is available with 400 and 450 horsepower ratings for heavy-duty port, freight and vocational applications. In-use testing has proven that Westport ISX G matches efficiency of diesel trucks in the same application. On typical heavy-duty truck applications, approximately 95% of the fuel energy used is from LNG. From LNG Landline Mar/Apr 2009: 400 to 450 hp, 1,450 to 1,750 lbs.-ft. of torque -- The ISX HPDI engine uses natural gas as the primary fuel, introduced to the cylinder through the patented two-stage HPDI injector. It delivers the natural gas charge along with a small quantity of diesel to the prompt ignition of the natural gas. The ISX HPDI engine will need a diesel particulate filer and SCR – selective catalytic reduction – to meet EPA 2010 emissions, though the big bonus is the 21 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The clean-air credits and buying incentives are based on reduced carbon dioxide output.
