On the recommendation of the NGV 2 (CNG Fuel Containers) Technical Advisory Group (as suggested by CVEF), the NFPA 52 (Vehicle Fuel Systems Code) Committee has agreed to add information on cylinder inspection to the CNG dispenser notice in the upcoming 2009 version of the code. The revised notice, to be in section 8.14.12, of the code, is shown below...
A warning sign(s) with the words A. STOP MOTOR B. NO SMOKING C. FLAMMABLE GAS D. NATURAL GAS VEHICLE FUEL CYLINDERS SHOULD BE PERIODICALLY INSPECTED (NORMALLY EVERY 3 YEARS) TO ENSURE SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. CONTACT VEHICLE OR CYLINDER MANUFACTURER” shall be posted at the dispensing points. NFPA 52 will also include a suggested flyer with more information on cylinder inspection, to be handed out by CNG dispensing facilities. A copy of the flyer is shown below: In view of the importance of cylinder and fuel system inspection to the safety of CNG vehicles, we suggest you get a head start on the new NFPA 52 requirements by beginning to post this expanded warning and hand out flyers as soon as possible.
